Spa Blokes Prayer & Study Group
Meeting socially is one thing, but in order to grow closer to God and deepen our relationships with Him and each other is fundamental to fulfilling our purposes as Leaders, Fathers, Husbands, Brothers & Friends. Just as with any other Christian the first foundation should be a regular quiet time, but in addition to this, we are made to fellowship with each other.
Mixed gender small groups are a key part of church life but sometimes meeting with people of our own gender enables us to go deeper; challenge each other in areas of accountability; an open up to close friends who may appreciate more of what we are going through as they have experienced / are experiencing similar challenges in their own lives.
TAPAS has been running for some time and details can be found below. The group operates in an environment of Support, Confidentiality, Deepening frienships and a desire to know God better, hopefully living out His will and Promises in our daily lives.
TAPAS (Truth Application Prayer Accountability & Support)
We meet monthly on the first Tuesday of the month, Evenings tend to commence with catching up over coffee; then lead lead into discussion; and involve a prayer time before we close. We occasionally share a precious time of communion together. The discussion is led around a topic covered in a book that we read between meetings, of which those covered to date are below:-
Anthony Delaney's “Diamond Geezers” - topics included Fitness, Failure, Finance, Friends, Family & Father.
J.I. Packers book “Weakness is the Way" - a key part of which was to understand our strength through being vulberable.
Kevin Deyoung's "What does the bible really teach about homosexuality".
Brother Lawrence's 'The Practice of the Presence of God'
Tommy Tenney's 'Open Heaven'
Michal Frost's 'Surprise the World' will be the next book studied.
Our aim is to go a little deeper in our walk with God, looking at issues as they affect men in our roles as brother, father, friend, husband, etc. and challenge each other out of our comfort zones from time to time.
